SERIES: MASTERS REMIXED (2022-2024)

“Masters Remixed” is a series of still lifes of varying degrees of abstraction. The idea for the series is based on the techniques of remixes and mash-ups as they are used in music. There, existing pieces are remixed and/or interpreted in order to dress them in a different, often contemporary guise. The remixes in music can be done using different techniques to achieve different goals. The results can vary from small changes to one song to mixing up several songs (mash-ups) that are far removed from the original versions. This approach is used in this series of paintings to abstract classic works by old masters of the 16th and 17th centuries. The series is about presenting the various means and styles used in remixes in music in visual form. To do this, images and figures are first transferred from the analogue to the digital world. They are then changed using digital editing options and then brought back into the analog world (in this case the screen).

SERIES: BATHROOM SITUATIONS (2021)

The individual works of the following series are primarily linked by the visual element of the tile color and the bathroom as a setting. The depictions range from everyday situations to weird or special moments that may only happen once in a lifetime, but can have an impact on life as a whole. There are moments like taking a shower in the morning and motivating yourself for the day or the moment when a girl gets her period for the first time. In addition, snapshots are shown that can evoke a feeling of relaxation or can be directly linked to a certain tension – such as a diamond ring „dancing“ on the surface of a drain, the view of an empty toilet paper roll or a fallen tampon, which is also in it fallen nail polish. It´s moments when it feels like your blood freezes or you just think „Shit!“.

SERIES: A QUICK BITE (2019-2021)

The works of the “A QUICK BITE” series deal with power relations in the field of sex work and the exploitation of sex workers, which are often “consumed” in between, such as a quick bite, snacked on during the lunch break. By combining fast food elements with body parts (mostly primary and secondary sex characteristics), Reuys visualizes the similarities between fast food and the treatment of sex workers. The conscious use of bright colors and the simple, bold depictions – as they are typical in fast-food advertising – wrap the subject in a Pop Art-like guise and thus draw attention to the exploitation of women and men in the sex business. The use of humorous elements – both in the presentation and in the titles – is intended to take the tension out of the dark topics and thus lower the hurdles to dealing with them and talk about them. The omission of faces underscores the anonymity and irrelevance (as persons) of sex workers.
